ABOUT US

HISTORY

Recovery Centers of Arkansas has a rich history with strong foundations in the recovery community of central Arkansas. The first Alcoholics Anonymous group in Arkansas and the oldest AA group west of the Mississippi River initially incorporated in the 1950's, as the Twenty-Four Hour Club and later as Addiction Treatment Centers, for the purpose of purchasing a facility in Little Rock to offer treatment for alcohol abuse. A need was shortly thereafter identified to have a similar facility on the north side of the river. Twelve people, incorporating as Riverbend Recovery Centers, donated $100 each for a down payment on a building and property located at the current site in North Little Rock. Operating under separate articles of incorporation, the two facilities each expanded, offering treatment to both men and women and to include substance abuse treatment in general rather than just alcohol addiction.

The two non-profits were merged in January 1999, in recognition of the mutual objectives, history and vision for the future. Through the years, thousands of individuals have gained the support needed to begin their recovery process through the vision and sustained efforts of the individuals at Recovery Centers of Arkansas.

This vision has fostered two major expansions.  In 2008, Recovery Centers of Arkansas purchased Steeplechase Apartments adjacent to its Little Rock facility.  The 26-unit apartment complex makes available stable, long-term housing for individuals and families in need of a drug-free environment.  Then, in 2010 with the purchase of the Oasis Renewal Center, the organization again realized a dream by opening an upscale residential program targeted for professionals with a heavy emphasis on intervention and family services.

In recognition of its compliance with the highest safety and treatment quality standards, in 2000, the organization became the first free-standing substance abuse treatment facility in the state to be awarded a national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Recovery Centers of Arkansas is now the largest substance abuse treatment provider in the state.  It remains a recognized leader for quality incorporating the latest research techniques into its firm foundations in the twelve steps.
